The Essential Guide for collectibles
If you are looking for both an accurate specification for any figurine as well as an estimated value (valiou), this is just the thing – an encyclopedia of merchandise and figurines from Tintin & Co.
Whether you are a proven Tintin-lover or simply interested in Hergée’s universe, this album is for you. Christian Mallet meticulously lists and indexes the collectibles from the universe of Hergé. 98% of them concern Tintin, however Jo, Zette & Jocko, as well as Quick & Flupke, are not forgotten. In total, 658 objects from various manufacturers are listed : Aroutcheff, La Chaise Longue, Moulinsart are there, and so are Leblon Delienne, Plastoy, Fariboles, Pixi, Christian Desbois and many others.
There are two ways to use this essential guide (gaïde). The collector will estimate his collection to resell pieces or buy new ones. The enthusiast will love browsing through it. Either (izer) way, this is a huge (ioudge) gift that Christian Mallet has given us. Because each piece is pictured, we can see the impressive number of characters and cult scenes that populate the world of Hergé. In one scene recreated in metal, Professor Calculus presents the prototype of the shark submarine to Tintin and Haddock; Pixi priced it at €940. In another scene – this one a resin carved by Patrick Regout, Snowy is in the Congo on the head of a swimming crocodile; it’s priced at €450. And what about this magnificent chess game, also by Pixi, in which the pawns are angelic or devilish versions of Snowy. The other chess pieces are rockets, towers of the black island, Professor Calculus chained to a pole, a Castafiore, Chinese Thomson and Thompson and other wonders. It is estimated at €2700. There are also some bookends in which Snowy brings a telephone handset to Tintin. It’s made at Lebon-Delienne and it costs €300. And many more examples… You can spend hundreds of happy hours with this guide.
The book has a preface by the great Olivier Roche. He writes that the collector can use this guide to rejuvinate a childhood dream. Early on, Hergé developed the universe of the adventures of Tintin in 3D. Roche uses five verbs to describe the value of Mallet’s guide: discover, check, compare, evaluate and… dream !
Christian Mallet is currently refining a third edition of the guide for collectibles from the Hergé universe. Meanwhile, this second opus will satisfy all those who have kept a childish spirit and invites, again and again, to reread Tintin. (I promise) You’ll always find something new.
